Early rooting and flooding tolerance in cuttings from a Populus deltoides full-sib family under greenhouse conditions

چکیده

Eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh.) is an important forest tree, with elite genotypes propagated mainly as unrooted dormant cuttings. Several areas where P. planted periodically experience flooding episodes. The aims of this work were to analyze the early rooting capability and tolerance a full-sib family, identify growth, wood, leaf traits that correlate tolerance. We analyzed parental 30 clones from F 1 generation under greenhouse conditions. percentage cuttings ranged 50% 100%. There was positive genetic correlation between shoot weight root (number, biomass, total length). In separate experiment, 2-month-old plants growing in pots same subjected two treatments: watering (control) for 35 days. Most showed intermediate respect clones. Height, diameter, growth rate, plant area, number, increase rate had phenotypic tolerance, while wood density did not. Height diameter are recommended selection because they easy measure, have moderate high narrow sense heritability.

Genetic variation in rooting ability of loblolly pine cuttings: effects of auxin and family on rooting by hypocotyl cuttings.

After about 20 days, hypocotyl cuttings from 20-day-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) seedlings rooted easily in the presence of the auxin indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), with roots forming directly from xylem parenchyma. In contrast, woody cuttings from 1-2-year-old hedged seedlings formed roots indirectly from callus tissue in 60-90 days, but IBA had little effect on rooting. Variation in rooti...

Characterization of responses to flooding and post – flooding recovery in two Populus deltoides clones: physiological and biochemical aspects

Background In Argentina, most poplar plantations are located at the Paraná River Delta. Climate change models indicate an increase of flooding events for the next decades in this area. Therefore, poplar genotypes with a higher flooding tolerance will be needed for the forest activity. Whether this aim is achieved through traditional breeding or biotechnological developments, it will be importan...

Drought Tolerance of Several Tomato Genotypes Under Greenhouse Conditions

Growth and production of agricultural crops are greatly affected by water shortage. Thus, yield enhancement under drought conditions is a major goal of plant breeding. Four commercial tomato cultivars (Imperial, Pakmore VF, Strain-B and Tnshet Star), a drought-tolerant breeding line (L 03306) and their hybrid combinations were selected in this study to evaluate drought tolerance and to develop ...

Node, internode, and leaf explants of Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh. × Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh. hybrid poplar clone (89 M 066) tissue culture regenerated plantlets were used for direct and indirect somatic embryogenesis. Direct somatic embryos were differentiated on node, internode and leaf explants on Murashige and Skoog basal medium (MS) supplemented with N 6 -Benzyladenine (BA)...

Late blight resistance in a diploid full-sib potato family

Late blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is the most destructive disease of potato worldwide. As this pathogen can rapidly overcome major race-specific resistance genes, identifying the basis for enhanced quantitative resistance has become a crucial element for implementing advanced breeding strategies. A population of 230 full-sib progeny derived from a cross between two ...
